Within the continuum at Grand Traverse Pavilions, aquatic health and fitness classes are open to constituents, employees, and members of the community from toddlers to adults.
Within the continuum at Grand Traverse Pavilions, Dry Land and Aquatic Health and Fitness Programs are open to constituents of Grand Traverse Pavilions. In addition, aquatic exercise classes are available to individuals 18 and over in the community.
All of the aquatic exercise classes are held in the uniquely-designed, 90-degree pool, which is located on site within the state-of-the-art Aquatic/Wellnes Center.
Sessions are five or ten weeks in duration and are held once or twice a week depending on whch class is chosen. Full payment is expected at the time of registration.
A certified aquatic instructor as well as licensed therapists provide instruction for the aquatic exercise classes.
Individuals who participate in aquatic exercise classes must be medically stable and able to maintain balance in the water independently. They must also be self-sufficient in the locker room; any help required must be provided by a family member or personal attendant.
Anyone interested in aquatic exercise classes should consult with a physician before taking part in the sessions.

Arthritis/Fibromyalgia I&II
Classes provide an opportunity for people of all ages with arthritis or fibromyalgia to participate in a relaxed fitness class. The classes are designed to maintain and increase joint flexibility and muscular strength, improve balance and coordination, and assist with pain management. There are no bouncing movements.
Senior Splash
Targest older adults who have no restrictions beyond those of the normal aging process. Focus is on joint mobility, flexibility, and strength using low impact aerobics, water walking/jogging, and resistance equipment.
Simple water exercise and relaxation program. The classes use a combination of deep breathing and slow, broad movements of the arms, legs, and torso in flowing continual patterns accentuating overall body awareness and strength.
Hour of Power
An advanced aerobic workout intended to challenge adults of all ages, who are serious about fitness. Focus is on increasing heart rate and utilizing interval training principles to increase muscle strength, balance, flexibility, and cardiovascular fitness.
Buoys Class
For men only. The workout emphasizes water walking/jogging, zero to low impact aerobics, and resistance training as appropiate for the individual.
Water Readiness
There are two classes intended to help infants and toddlers develop a comfort level in and around water as well as readiness for learning to swim. Parents are in the water with their child at all times and are responsible for their safety. These are not swimming lessons.
Morning Ritual
A high paced class for individuals with no restrictions. Resistive exercises to tone and strengthen core muscles are emphasized with spurts of interval training to maintain a high cardiovascular workout.
