According to DeAgostino, the Aquatic/Wellness Center services include physical, occupational, and aquatic therapy as well as speech-language pathology and a variety of aquatic health and fitness programs.

DeAgostino explained that Grand Traverse Pavilions participates with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Medicare, Priority Health, Workers’ Compensation, and Auto Insurance.

Participation in outpatient therapy requires a physician’s referral. Referrals are welcome from the medical community.

Opened in 2002, the Aquatic/Wellness Center features a state-of-the-art gymnasium and a 90-degree, shallow and deep-water therapy pool, which is equipped with a handicapped accessible chair lift to assist individuals who have difficulty navigating stairs.

DeAgostino said that the Aquatic/Wellness Center is unique in its outreach to an multi-aged constituency.

“Whether you’re 4 or 84, our outpatient therapy services are designed to meet individual needs,” she said. “Our services are open to anyone who is recovering from hip, knee, back, spinal, or shoulder surgeries and acute injuries of the same. They are also available to individuals suffering from arthritis or in rehabilitation following brain injury or stroke.”

DeAgostino noted that the Aquatic/Wellness Center’s speciality niche of aquatic therapy, with physician referral, is recommended for neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s, muscular dystrophy, Gullian Barre, cerebal palsy, and multiple sclerosis. She added that the aquatic health and fitness programs also focus on improving flexibility, strength, endurance, and conditioning. Individuals are encouraged to consult with a physician before participating in any exercise regiment. The Aquatic/Wellness Center is one of the primary components of Grand Traverse Pavilions and our award-winning continuum of care. In addition to therapy services, the continuum consists of adult day & overnight respite, assisted living, child care, and long-term skilled nursing care.
